Krishna Chakraborty,
an established name in the world of Indian classical
music, belongs to the younger generation of talented
vocalists.
The promise of an exceptional
voice, noted for its power, range and sensitivity,
attracted attention when she was only a child.
After initial grooming under her mother, Krishna's
training was taken over by maestros like Pandit
Bholanath Bhatt, Ustad Mustaq Hussain Khan, Rarpada
Chakraborty, Nibritti Bua Sarnaik and Pandit V.G.
Jog.
This natural gift won early recognition
when Krishna received the first prize at the All
India Music competition in Allahabad, and the
best performer award for classical vocal music
from the late President Zakir Hussain in the inter-university
youth festival at Delhi in 1963.
An alumnus of Lady Irwin School
and I.P. College in Delhi, Krishna performs at
leading music festivals in India, including the
Dover Lane Music Conference, Birendra Kishore
Memorial Music Festival and at the Ameer Khan
School of music. She has also performed at various
places in U.K and Japan.
