After this realization dawned
on him, young Nanak Chand dropped all other occupations
and went into solitude, leading the life of an
ascetic, in search of the complete truth. After
prolonged meditation and silent introspection,
he felt that he was ready to begin his work. He
delivered his first discourse in Ambala Cantt
in Punjab in 1968. Since then, he has used every
religious function as an occasion to spread his
message of oneness with the universe. Thousands
flocked to listen to his spell binding, emotional
and, at times, piercing discourses which flowed
straight from the soul. During the following 20
years, he traveled from one end of India to the
other, touring and lecturing, staying wherever
he was invited. His discourses are laced with
stories and anecdotes from both ancient Indian
and contemporary texts.
In 1971, he founded the Adhyatmic
Sadhna Sangh, a spiritual organization, at Delhi,
which started from humble beginnings and is now
a full fledged three storied ‘‘ashram''
in Naraina Vihar, New Delhi, devoted to the propagation
of spiritual thought and yogic meditative practices.
He has recently added a health center, where systems
of alternative medicine such as meditative healing,
reiki, pranic healing, acupressure and magneto-therapy
are available for the benefit of the general public.
Yogiraj Nanak also got the Maluk
‘‘Sthal'' at Kada, where he acquired
his first insight, reconstructed and renovated
from its ruins. He is the present day ‘‘Mahanta''
to the seat of saint Maluk Das at Kada, Allahabad.
He has collected all the available scripts and
writings of Baba Maluk Das and got them compiled
and translated--a voluminous task.
To describe Yogiraj Nanak and
his work completely is very difficult. Sometimes,
he appears totally present, speaking animatedly
and soulfully about some spiritual or philosophical
subject, and then, suddenly, he withdraws completely
into another dimension. There are times when the
silence is even more poignant and meaningful than
words. Strangely, one somehow seems to communicate
better through the silence.
