Falling Like Stars – Musical Feature Film Project

LOGLINE: At a rustic California motel, four unlikely friends find love and music under desert skies.

THE STORY:
Set in a fictional small town somewhere in the California high desert, Falling Like Stars takes us on a magical journey of the heart. At a rustic motel/bar, friendships are made, love is found, and music comes back to life. The character driven story unfolds through a cast of diverse and quirky characters, the soundtrack of soulful indie folk love songs, and elegant romantic piano ballads.

Falling Like Stars is an exploration of the meandering road to love from abandonment and apprehension to forgiveness and finally redemption. As love blooms under desert skies, everyone is–falling like stars.

While Falling Like Stars is set in the high desert, this is not a brown and barren landscape. This is the desert of many colors: vibrant fuchsia cactus flowers, the oranges and aquas of desert décor, dramatic pastel sunrises, richly hued sunsets, velvety night skies glittering with the bejeweled sparkles of a billion stars, and the natural fireworks of falling meteors. Against this exotic and inherently romantic landscape, I have set out to explore the challenges of love and friendship in our contemporary lives. I wanted to tell not just an American story, but a quintessential California story. And how better to do that than with an eclectic and diverse cast of characters who reflect the interwoven tapestry of the many cultures that live here.

As an artist, my aim is to inspire and uplift my audience. In Falling Like Stars, I use magical realism to tell this story about solving life’s ultimate mystery: What is love after all? Falling Like Stars is less of a romance and more like A Midsummer Night’s Dream in the desert.

As the Tarot reader in the story tells us, “The Wheel of Fortune card says ‘life is in constant flux.’ Is the Universe playing with us, driving us mad? No, it’s only turning–up and down and up again.”
